Climatic Requirements Temperature: 24°C to 30°C; Rainfall: Well-distributed during early growth; dry conditions during fruit maturation
Soil Type Sandy loam to loamy soil with good drainage, pH: 6.0 to 7.5
Sowing Time Summer (Jan–Feb); Kharif (July–Aug)
Seed Rate 3–4 kg/ha depending on varieties
Transplanting 25–30 days seedlings are ready for transplanting
Fertilizer Requirement 100–120 kg N, 50–80 kg P₂O₅, 60 kg K₂O per hectare; FYM: 20–25 tons/ha; Apply N in 2–3 split doses (basal and topdressing)
Irrigation Requires regular irrigation during early stages; reduce during flowering and fruit development
Weed Control Manual weeding during early stages; mulching suppresses weeds and improves quality harvest
Harvesting 80–100 days after sowing; harvest when fruit produces a dull sound when tapped and the tendrils near the fruit dry
Yield 40–60 tons/ha
Post-Harvest Store up to 15 days at room temperature
Major Diseases Alternaria blight, Downy mildew, Fusarium wilt, Bud necrosis virus
