Research Projects

ICAR-IIVR pursues a dynamic and multifaceted research agenda through a robust portfolio of Institute and Externally funded projects addressing contemporary challenges in vegetable improvement, production, and protection. The research programmes are strategically aligned with national priorities of climate resilience, food and nutritional security, sustainable agriculture, and doubling farmers' income under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. Scientists across the three Divisions work on genetic enhancement of major vegetable crops for stress tolerance and quality traits, precision farming and resource-use efficiency, organic production systems, and eco-friendly pest and disease management strategies. Cutting-edge biotechnological interventions including genome editing, marker-assisted breeding, and omics-based research complement conventional breeding efforts to accelerate genetic gains. The Institute's collaborative research network extends through partnerships with national and international agencies including ICAR, DBT, DST-SERB, NASF, PPV&FRA, state governments, and private industry, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the vegetable value chain from seed to consumer. These research initiatives collectively generate improved varieties, validated production technologies, and crop protection solutions that directly benefit farmers, seed industries, food processors, and policy makers while contributing to India's position as a global leader in vegetable production.
