Externally Funded Project

The externally funded projects in the Improvement Division at ICAR-IIVR represent a comprehensive and integrated approach to addressing contemporary challenges in vegetable research, spanning improvement, production, and protection domains. In vegetable improvement, the research thrust centers on developing climate-resilient germplasm through identification of heat-tolerant and moisture-deficit tolerant hybrids under NICRA, discovery of novel genes and QTLs for viral disease resistance (ToLCNDV, ToLCV) in cucurbits and tomato, and advancement of transgenic lines expressing Cry1Ac/Cry1Aa3 (insect resistance) and AtDREB1A/BcZAT12 (abiotic stress tolerance). Cutting-edge biotechnological tools including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, marker-assisted breeding, proteomics, and metabolomics are being deployed to accelerate genetic gains and understand stress response mechanisms at molecular level.
