Institutional Activities

ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi has undertaken a comprehensive suite of institutional activities aimed at strengthening research governance, fostering scientific excellence, and promoting organizational development. The Institute Research Council meeting reviewed progress across all three divisions, evaluating technologies, varieties, and unique germplasm for certification, registration, and release. The Research Advisory Committee provided critical guidance on research priorities, while the Quinquennial Review Team assessed six years of institutional performance across vegetable research and extension domains.

The institute actively promoted intellectual property awareness through dedicated programmes covering patents, copyrights, plant variety registration, and technology commercialization, engaging scientists and technical staff from multiple ICAR horticultural institutes. The Institute Technology Management Committee focused on enhancing the IP portfolio and accelerating technology commercialization. Human resource development received attention through READY programmes for agricultural students, equipping future professionals with knowledge of vegetable improvement, production, and protection technologies alongside entrepreneurship orientation.

Institutional celebrations including Foundation Day, Republic Day, and Hindi Language Awareness Month fostered organizational cohesion while reinforcing national values. The Swachhta Hi Seva campaign extended cleanliness drives beyond institute premises to schools, temples, and ghats, reflecting social responsibility. Producer-exporter linkage meetings connected farmers, FPOs, and exporters, facilitating market access. Scientific Advisory Committee meetings at associated KVKs promoted modern technology adoption, natural farming, and millet value addition among farming communities. These activities collectively strengthen the institute's research ecosystem, ensure accountability, promote knowledge dissemination, and align institutional efforts with national priorities of agricultural transformation, self-reliance, and inclusive development.
